Winter Skin Care Tips

The change of season from warm to cool can also change your skins needs.  Here are some great tips to care for your skin when the tempreture drops.

Drink plenty of water

Drinking water is always great for your skin but in colder weather we can forget to keep hydrated.  Make sure you are drinking plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within.

Exfoliate your skin

In winter your skin can do with a bit of extra help to shed the old cells on the top layer.  Make sure you use a good facial exfoliant once a week to remove dead skin cells and impurities leaving the skin supple, refreshed and invigorated.  We recomend Thalgo's Exfoliant Cream Pure Radiance

Don't forget your body.  The MD Formulations Face & Body Scrub is a wonderful dual purpose product and really leaves your skin glowing.

Use an oil based moisturiser

As weather conditions change so too should your skin care routine.  The lighter cream or lotion you used in summer may not be as moisturising in colder weather.  An oil based moisturiser will create a protective layer on the skin so that it retains more moisture than a cream or lotion.  Many of the facial creams we stock have a partner product that is suitable such as Thalgo's Relaxing Cream which is good for use in winter if you normally use Thalgo's Energising Vitality Cream.

Keep using a Sunscreen

It might be cold but don't let that fool you into thinking you no longer need to wear a sunscreen.  An SPF15+ or greater sunscreen is still a good idea as the suns rays still age your skin in winter.  We recommend the True Solutions sunscreen range.  There is a product for all skin types including tinted, sport and Baby Face for sensitive skin.

Don’t lick your lips!

Chapped lips are something many of us get during winter.  They don't like to be exposed to the cold.  Make sure you use a good lip balm that doesn't contain any petroleum based products.

How to prepare for your Spray on Tan

Our TechnoTan spray on tan works on the upper layers of your skin, which are constantly being shed through natural exfoliation. Your TechnoTan will last longer if you exfoliate before getting your spray on tan, using a body scrub or exfoliating product.  Make sure the product does not contain glycolic acid as this can speed up your skins exfoliation after the tan is applied.

You want to exfoliate as much as possible before your tan and as least as possible after.  Make sure you pay particular attention to the knees, elbows and heels as this is where your skin can be thick.  The more layers means the more colour and you want a natural, even look.

Your skin must be completely free of any moisturiser, oils, deodorants, make-up or perfumes before getting your spray on tan.  Moisturisers and oils stop the tan getting to the skin and other products can react with the tanning solution.  You should moisturise the skin the night before to prepare it but no closer than that to the tanning session.

Any waxing or shaving should be done at least 24 hour prior to your tanning session.  Waxing in particular leaves a residue and this can lead to whiter patches where it blocks the tan reaching the skin.

When getting your spray on tan you may wear as little as you like or a full bathing suit. Most people wear just a G-String but this is a personal choice. We provide a disposable G-string but a lot of our clients like to wear a pair of black underpants.  Our team are fully trained to operate in a discreet manner and dont mind what you choose to wear (or not wear).

The application of the product takes less than 10 minutes and feels touch dry almost immediately. We will spray you down a little with warm air to dry off any wet areas.  The spray can be cold but it is over quite quickly.  It is recommended that you wear light loose clothing after being sprayed as full development of your tan will take 6 - 8 hours and you any undue friction from tight clothing may affect the final result.

Your tan will initially be the tinted solution which will then develop into the actual tan.  For a small period of time after the tan develops and before you wash off the tint it can look very dark as the colour is doubled up.  After a shower your skin will be a nice, bronzed tone.
